OVH launches Australian public cloud from Equinix data centre

IaaS provider also moves into Telstra's Singapore data centre

Cloud infrastructure provider OVH has launched its public cloud service in Australia, operating in Equinix's data centre in Sydney.

The French infrastructure-as-a-service vendor has also launched a public cloud through a Telstra-operated data centre in Singapore, bringing its number up to eight worldwide.

The move follows the firm’s launch of an Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne two years ago, with Lionel Legros relocating from France to join as regional director.

At the time of the announcement, the company said it intended to hire 80 people locally in highly-skilled roles.

“Delivering a fast and reliable service to our customers is paramount to everything we do at OVH,” OVH CEO Michel Paulin said. “By adding public cloud regions in APAC, we commit to develop in this region of the world and aim to support the local cloud users’ growth.

"It aligns with our multi-local strategy, placing data centres physically closer to local end-users. It also benefits our European, Middle East and African (EMEA) customers looking to do business in APAC, where OVH has operated since 2016.”

As a result, OVH now provides public cloud services from data centres in Singapore, Australia, Poland, the UK, Canada and France.

“Since opening our APAC HQ in Melbourne in 2017, we’ve seen a strong demand for the fast, flexible and transparent cloud infrastructures that we offer local customers,” Legros added.

According to Legros, the move locally will allow OVH to provide start-up and small to medium-sized enterprise customers with the choice of building tailored cloud solutions depending on requirements.

Based on OpenStack, OVH provides public cloud services from 28 data centres across Poland, the UK, Canada and France, as well as Australia and Singapore.
