Students use Lenovo tablets at Deakin University on 25 June
Data#3, with the support of Lenovo, has donated hardware to Victoria-based Deakin University to support STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning.
“STEM covers a wide range of disciplines and skills, which are increasingly in demand in a rapidly changing world, and are important for all stages of learning,” Deakin Warrnambool manager for community engagement Geraldine Moloney said.
“The provision of technology from Data#3 is a great support for the program and makes it more accessible to students from all areas. The children can learn skills that are necessary for their futures, while having lots of fun at the same time.”
The program, which started on 25 June, will see the publicly-listed company provide Lenovo tablets and Sphero Edu robots to the university's Warrnambool campus, aimed at students from primary and secondary school.
Students from Heywood and District Secondary School and Macarthur Primary School have already had access to the hardware during an on-campus school camp.
With the Sphero Edu robots students can learn how to program robots through its toolset, which includes drawing, driving but also JavaScript.
“This is a fantastic initiative, and the team at Data#3 are excited to be a part of this innovative learning program," Data#3 national practice manager for education David Wain said.
"With advanced technology so accessible, the benefits afforded to educators and students are endless. We look forward to working with Deakin University and other education providers in implementing The Anywhere Classroom to enable limitless learning for students.”
As explained by Wain, the Anywhere Classromm is a Data#3 initiative which aims to deliver enhanced education through the use of mobile solutions.
Data#3 counted on the support of Lenovo, with the IT services provider partnering with the vendor since 2005.
The news comes more than a month after Data#3 was awarded a $1.69 million contract to replace the Western Australia Public Transport Authority's (PTA) block storage area network (SAN).
Data#3 will replace the Dell EMC (formerly EMC) VMax and VPlex system with Pure Storage hardware for PTA's on-site storage.
The contract was awarded in early May, with the Authority expecting the deployment to take two months.
